If you’ve ever wondered about the weirdness and intrigue that is me, well, you’ve come to the right spot. I decided today to give you 10 random facts about me in hopes this will help you get to know me better and understand my writing better as you journey along with me.
ONE: I’m a lover of pigs. Obsessed is the more accurate word. Pigs in all shapes, sizes, colors and cuteness.
It all started 9 years ago when I was pregnant with my first child. I was going through a really tough time and couldn’t get out of my head so I would aimlessly scroll social media. I vividly remember the day I discovered the joy in those weird, gross, amazing, beautiful creatures. I remember the brightness of the sky outside, the quietness of the house I was in, and the peace that it brought me.
I found a video on YouTube with a bunch of tiny pink piglets running around a house. They were all making these little grunting, squeaking noises and I started sobbing. It may sound strange, but that one video changed my whole life. From then on, whenever I needed to feel better, I would just look at videos and pictures of these cute creatures.
I’ll eventually write a whole post on pigs so you can see and enjoy the brightness these amazing creatures bring so keep your eye out for that.
TWO: I’ve never watched Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, or Star Wars. I know, I know, do I live under a rock? The answer is no.
I didn’t grow up watching television or movies, so when I did start, it was Disney, then when I did branch out, I would find a TV show that I liked and binge the entire thing, then feel lost for a few weeks until I could find the next one that was in the same genre.
I will tell you what though, I have seen the entirety of The Office more times than I can remember.
THREE: One item on my bucket list is to go to Africa.
I want to go on an African safari. I want to see the magic and uniqueness of the animals and land. I want to see the elephants and giraffes and lions in their wild homes. I want to experience the thrill of being up close to these magical creatures. I want to experience the culture and diversity. When I do go, I’ll bring you guys along with me through my writing and posts.
FOUR: I have an addiction to coffee.
Yes, the caffeine too, but the coffee. The smell, the dark, bitter taste. The warmth in the morning when you’ve just woken up. The refreshing taste in the afternoon for your 8th cup of coffee. (I know, that’s a lot. I’m working on cutting back.)
I like my coffee with just a splash of oat milk in it. Sometimes I’ll add a little bit of honey or agave. Or occasionally I’ll put a pump of some flavor in there, but for the most part, it’s the roasted coffee bean flavor that calls me. I have to stop and remind myself I need to hydrate with other fluids that aren’t coffee.
FIVE: I’m the 15th child of 16 kids from my mom.
Yes, she did give birth to all 16 of us. 11 girls, and 5 boys. Being that I’m almost the baby meant my older siblings were also having babies when I was born, so not only did I get to have 15 siblings to have as my friends, but I also got to have nieces and nephews to call my best friends.
SIX: I don’t have just one favorite color.
My all-time favorites since I was a kid have been green and pink. Not quite neon colors, but more on the bright side. These are still my favorite favorites. But as time goes on and I grow, I have my favorite “adult colors”. Those are sage green, dark yellow, and turquoise.
SEVEN: I have a complete mental block around math.
I can remember this as far back as I can remember doing math. Math words are used and my mind blanks. When I actually talked myself into it, I was really great at math in grade school. I did okay as the years passed. But even to this day, my mind blanks out when math is involved.
EIGHT: I cannot live without lotion.
It has to be the creamy thick kind that doesn’t leave your body feeling gross and oily. I’m a dehydrated desert lizard at all times. My skin is constantly dry. Especially since in my job, I wash my hands a million times a day, it only makes it worse.
I can’t go to bed at night without having my face cleaned and lotioned. I have to also put lotion on my feet, hands, and neck to sleep. It may be part habitual and part OCD, but I can’t live without my lotion.
NINE: Doing laundry is therapeutic for me.
If I can be by myself either watching a TV show or listening to music or a podcast, laundry is one of my happy places. The repetitive motions bring my chaos into focus.
TEN: I need to wear glasses.
I have glasses and I’m supposed to wear them, but I also have to have my sunglasses when it’s bright outside as I get headaches easily. So it’s a pain when I have to trade them back and forth, so most times I just don’t wear them. I do try to wear them more when I’m working on my computer or driving at night as my eyesight is getting worse as I age.
Writing this was harder than I thought it was going to be. Yes, we all have many things that make us who we are. But living with them all daily makes them less interesting to us personally. It was difficult finding 10 random things that I thought would not only be interesting but also bring to you a little of who I am. So, I hope you enjoy it, and this helps you remember that you’re interesting too. You make this world better with you here.
Sending you all, Sunshine.
Love, Mary.
Thank you for sharing a bit of yourself with the world๐ฅฐ
